LIEBSTER AWARD 2017

This past week, I got a sweet message from a fellow blogger nominating me for the Liebster Award! I was not only surprised, but extremely humbled that she chose my blog for this award. Even though Joy and I have never met in the flesh, we are both a part of a wonderful blogging group that does nothing but lift up other bloggers and give one another advice. To say that her recognition meant a lot is a total understatement. When you’re a newbie to blogging, ANYTHING positive is like a green light to keep it up. So, a HUGE THANK YOU to the amazing Joy Williams at Joy to the Soul for taking the time to pour into the Shaken Together family. You rock, sister 😉

So, what is the Liebster Award anyway? I asked the same question when Joy brought it up! LOL! After reading Joy’s post, and doing a little digging, I learned that Liebster is German for “Dearest” and several other terms of endearment. However, in the blogging community, the Liebster Award is basically a virtual high-five given by bloggers to other bloggers as a way of discovering new blogs. The recipients are most often newbies that are just making their way into the blogosphere, however some veterans are also sprinkled in.

In order to accept the award, nominees have a few random requirements such as answering questions given to them by their nominator, nominating a few other blogs and notifying them via some kind of social media, and posting the Liebster Award on their blog. That said, here are my answers to Joy’s questions:

HOW DID YOU CHOOSE YOUR BLOG’S NAME?

Honestly, when I decided to start a blog this was the hardest task of all. I spent MONTHS praying over, talking out loud, scribbling notes in a million places, bouncing ideas off my spouse, my mom, my sister, my friends. I just wanted a title that meant something special to me, but was also versatile enough to evolve with me. The verse Luke 6:38 holds a special place in my heart because I think this world needs more giving and less taking. In addition, we are a blended family that is most definitely “Shaken Together” and “Running Over” e’rywhere! LOL! Everything I post on my blog is about my life experiences either with my family, my job as a school teacher, my friends, or just life in general. Everything roots back to this simple truth : cut out all the unnecessaries in order to have a simple relationship with Jesus, and then give that love out to the world.

WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE YOUTUBER OR PODCASTER?

Truthfully, I don’t have a set YouTuber or Podcaster that I listen to regularly. I love Steven Furtick, Louis Giglio, and anyone that is going to show me how to make a good recipe. However, I have another sweet blogging friend, Michele Nezat, that does a podcast where she relates life to music. I am an extremely musically minded person, and I find relevance in so many different musical works. I love Michele’s style and how she relates to people and life. You guys should check her out!

WHEN TIMES ARE TOUGH, HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH STRESS?

Well, being a teacher, mom, blended family member, stress is something I battle daily. I have found many different ways to combat it, but ultimately seeking God and His Word is the best stress reliever for me. Really, being in a worship environment is the fastest way to melt the stress away, but that simply doesn’t happen everyday! So, some other ways include taking a time out from it all – watching a movie with my family, hiking when we have the chance, and truly my favorite – hanging with my totally hot husband 😉

GIVE US THE LINK TO THE BLOG POST YOU ENJOYED WRITING THE MOST :

My post titled “Forgiven & Loved” is one that is very close to my heart. It’s a glimpse into my husband’s difficult childhood, and how he has managed to find forgiveness, and ultimately freedom and love. This post has seemed to resonate with so many people and I truly loved partnering with my man to write it.

IF YOU COULD TRAVEL ANYWHERE, WHERE WOULD YOU GO?

Maine. I am a sucker for fall and all things cozy. I don’t know why, but Maine seems like it could be my eternal happy place. I might be totally wrong, but until I find out for myself I’m clinging to this. I have friends that have lived there and I know many people that have visited there, so I’ve basically been living vicariously through them. My goal is to plan the Best of Maine vacation within the next 5 years with the fam.

WHAT DO YOU WANT READERS TO KNOW THE MOST ABOUT YOU?

I’m super hard on myself!! I am extremely transparent and am faaarrrr from living a perfect life. I mess up daily and I am sloooowly learning that that’s ok. I love people – all kinds of people – and I want them to know that Jesus does too.

WHAT’S YOUR ADVICE FOR NEW BLOGGERS?

Don’t compare yourself to other bloggers! I find myself getting caught in this trap occasionally, and I have to remind myself what the Lord placed on my heart about it. There are a billion bloggers out there, but this is YOUR journey and YOUR story. No one can beat you to YOUR destination because it’s not theirs. There is no time frame, there is no right or wrong way. Just be you and move at your own pace. Do NOT let the blogosphere create anxiousness in your heart. Let your blog be between you and your readers, and don’t worry about anything else. Stay focused on the joy in YOUR blog.
